Good tea competition in New Taipei

► tea exhibition on campus

1.Preparation for promotion

After the visit, we discovered that many students in the school have no idea that Linkou has been a tea production area despite their interest in tea. Therefore, we decided to hold a promotion campaign to enhance their knowledge of tea. First of all, we divided into two groups to utilize different promotion method. The first group would design game and presentation, and introduce tea to students at the square on campus during the longer break. The second group make powerpoints, lectures and brew tea in different classes.

Before the campaign, we created posters, powerpoints and games. We also decorate the location of promotion and book the place. At first, we made two posters and printed them out, distributing flyers to each class and invite them to the event, hoping to stoke their interest in tea culture in Linkou. At that time, google presentation was the crucial material for our promotion. Members kept thinking about what aspect we should introduce to highlight the feature of Linkou’s tea culture. In the end, we decided to focus on the reason that Linkou Long-Shou tea disappears and its characteristics. We also offer particpants a cup of Linkou Long-Shou tea with a sweet after taste. We hoped that with the effort of students, local residents would know that Linkou used to be a birthland of tea, it only gradually disappeared because of the historical background.

2.Promotion on campus

At the week of the static performance exhibition that we expected, the exciting and fun promotion activities started. Upon the ring of the bell, we went to the front of the square at the first floor. We cooperate with each other to complete the work: 2-3 people brew tea for people to taste; one person broadcast at the student affairs section to announce and promote on campus; 2 people were responsible for the quiz with prize event on knowledge of tea; other people were responsible for lecture knowledge of tea with tablets and projectors. In the end, in order to let more people to know the tea culture of Linkou, we utilize the lunch break to conduct a survey in different classes. Students provided us with a lot of feedback and encouragement, they also praise “yummy!” when tasting the tea we brewed with care. Collecting questionnaire allow us to know more about the concept, knowledge and thoughts higher-grade students have on tea. We also discovered that adding the quiz with prize event would enhance students willingness of absorbing more knowledge about tea.

3.Response of questionnaire

In this promotion of Long-Shou tea culture, in order to confirm if everyone got to know more about the history, culture and knowledge regarding Linkou Long-Shou tea, we designed a questionnaire to enable the students to pass on tea culture for more people to know after the lecture.

Survey sample

We used Google forms to design 5 relevant questions regarding this topic, and distributed it to participants. There were 118 responses, with 28 uncompleted, and 90 valid questionnaires.

The frequency of drinking tea in everyday life

This question aims to explore the number of times and frequency higher-grade students drink tea. We found out that around 38% rarely drink tea, and about 55% of students drink tea frequently. We speculates that because the easy access to tea due to the widespread bottle tea in convenience stores, and the health benefits of drinking tea, about half of the students have a habit of drinking tea.

Your favorite beverage that contains tea

From the question, we can see the habit of drinking tea among higher grade elementary school students. Around 39 respondents like milk tea since black tea taste sweet after adding milk. Black tea is rated second place, with 20% respondents enjoy it. This is resulted from the sweet after taste of black tea. Besides, the base of bubble milk tea that is famous around the world is also black tea. The beverage in third place is various beverage from beverage shop, with 14% respondents’ preference. Only a few people enjoy drinking green tea and barley tea, etc. We speculate that is because most people are not used to tasting tea, and tea used in beverage shop are usually of low quality, so it is not easy for people to sense the original flavor and fresh scent. As a result, tea is relatively not preferred by higher grade students.
