About Chef Xiong and Beardoor

Chef Xiong, original name Hsu peng-yuan, is a traditional osteopathic doctor, who is well known to many Taiwanese. He was born in a poor family; in order to support his family, he had many part time jobs when he was just a student. While he was a young worker, his goodness; serious attitude; and talent was recognized by his master, then chef Xiong was accepted as an apprentice. As a student, Xiong had to juggle a busy schedule of schoolwork as well as help out in the evenings and on holidays. As an athlete since he was little, he was admitted to the National Sports University with his excellent sports performance. It was also a tear-turning point that made him more determined in his future direction. The required courses in physiology and anatomy allowed him to combine his school expertise with his master's skills, and he discovered a passion for repairing or even studying the human body. After graduation, Xiong actually did not aspire to be what he is now, but because of family factors and his own deep desire to help the public, he decided to embark on the road of rehabilitation at the age of 31.

In fact, in the process of learning, Xiong never thought of taking rehabilitation as his lifelong dedication to the industry. Like many young people who have just come out of society, he yearns for making his own fortune rather than a safe, risk-free job. At the age of 31, I decided not only to live for himself but also to take care of my family before embarking on the road of rehabilitation therapy. Also because of his serious, responsible, their own research and development of a set closer to the Taiwanese body needs of the repair techniques, also therefore attracted a lot of customers to come to. Many patients come in skeptical at first, but end up becoming regular customers because of this incredible technology. Thanks to his dedication and efforts, the traditional restorative therapy can continue to be passed down in Taiwan.

Q1: How did you come into contact with osteopathy?

A: I came into contact with it when I was working. When I first started practicing, the master thought I had some talent, so he began to cultivate me carefully. At that time, I wanted to learn well so that I could help others and take care of my family.

Q2: Are there any particularly impressive cases? Which might be hard for you to treat?

A: Scoliosis, because there is no shortcut to scoliosis. It requires treatments to correct him again and again.

Q3: Can there be so-called medical behaviors in this clinic? Or is there some kind of boundary?

A: We are now attributed to folk therapy. The norms of folk therapy are massage, scraping, cupping, and massage. Then, invasive treatment is not allowed, such as bloodletting, or acupuncture. There is no doubt that according to the provisions of the law, in fact, osteopathy is not acceptable, and that can only be done by a practicing doctor.

Q4: We have heard that you have a technology developed by yourself, which is not the same as that in mainland China. Is there any difference between osteopathy in Taiwan and mainland osteopathy?

A: In fact, there is no osteopathy in the mainland. It has been reduced during the Cultural Revolution. Tuina is very popular on the mainland. Osteopathy was originally from Yangzhou. When Taiwan was open to visting relatives, many veterans were teaching the so-called massage. Develop Chinese medicine, massage, massage, and acupuncture.

Q5: What is the difference between rehabilitation, osteopathy, massage, and acupuncture?

A: Acupuncture is to take a needle and rub it on the body. It is divided into physical and invasive. Physical is to use wormwood or an instrument. Osteopathy, the term can only be used by registered medical practitioners, such as orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation of western medicine. I am not a registered medical practitioner, so I can only talk about rehabilitating, tidying up the body, rehabilitating covers a wide range, including massage, scraping, cupping, and adjusting the skeleton. The more general name is because of the influence of the environment and the law. Surgery.

Q6: Does it have specific term?

A: There is a book left in ancient times called “Zhèng Gǔ Xīn Fǎ”, so its special term is “Zhèng Gǔ Shù”. It is also a compulsory course in China Medical College. There is also an important point mentioned in it: bone grafting, but it is declining.

We used Google forms to conduct the survey and collected a total of 27 responses from the Taiwanese of different ages. The main contents of the survey were Taiwan’s people's understanding of traditional rehabilitation and their views on Chinese medicine. We learned more about people's views on Chinese traditional medicine from the responses. …

Rehabilitation is not only traditional culture but also a medical method, and now it is disappearing. As we mentioned, people in Taiwan will prefer to go to western medicine clinics more than visit a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, the reason is not only more sophisticated instruments can detect the problem but also have better skills in surgery. According to our survey, approximately half and half of the people refer to traditional Chinese medicine, however, people who prefer western medicine still more than traditional Chinese medicine, and the reason for most is security concerns. Therefore, sometimes the problem we get, a western clinic may not solve, like many people have scoliosis. In western medicine clinics, it might tell you to have surgery but for traditional Chinese medicine clinics, the way to solve this is just like “a piece of cake”, you don’t have to pay high surgical fees. Based on the survey, most of the people in Taiwan will go to traditional Chinese clinics for such as higher height. There are 56% have tried it before, the reason to try it is because of the problems such as back pain, and 67.5% think it is good, moreover, 87.1% will receive it again. Although more people prefer western medicine, there are still many people with traditional Chinese medicine that can be saved, when all is said and done Chinese herbs can regulate the body, it won't strain your body too much. The people we survey and we think that the biggest reason why traditional Chinese medicine is gradually declining is the no descendants passing on the traditional culture and skills, no health insurance coverage, and restrictions for regents, and the controversy for professional license checking. Maybe we can organize some events to let more people know about rehabilitation, let everyone know its benefits, and hope it won’t disappear in the future.
