The History of Tea in Linkou and Taiwan

► The early period of the Republic of China era

Many tea garden was abandoned during the World War II, but Linkou tea garden gradually revived after the war. In 61 R.O.C. era (C.E. 1972), the production of tea in Linkou reached its peak. Despite that, in the following 8 years, the planted area and production dropped down. As a result of the relative high cost of Linkou tea compared to other regions in Asia, and the aging phenomena of tea trees in Linkou, the tea industry in Linkou waned gradually. After “Learning Institute of Tea” transformed to “Taiwan Province Tea Research and Extenstion Station (TRES), Linkou Station”, it relocated to Shiding District in 68 R.O.C. era (C.E. 1972).
